1. Stop using them immediately and remove the batteries
If you find that your hearing aid is damp, the first thing to do is to stop using it. Never try to turn it on or check whether it is still working properly. Because there may be a risk of short circuit inside the damp hearing aid, continued use may damage the internal components. If it is a battery-powered hearing aid, the battery should be removed immediately to prevent the battery from continuing to discharge in a humid environment, causing further damage to the circuit.
2. Clean the surface moisture
Next, gently wipe the surface of the hearing aid with a clean cotton cloth to remove visible moisture. Be gentle when wiping to avoid damaging the hearing aid with excessive force. Note that you should not try to open the inside of the hearing aid at this time to prevent further moisture from penetrating or damaging the internal structure.
3. Drying treatment
After the hearing aid is damp, drying treatment is the key. You can use a special hearing aid drying box or electronic dryer for drying. Hearing aid drying boxes usually have a dehumidification function, which can effectively remove moisture from the inside of the hearing aid. The electronic dryer further evaporates the water vapor in the hearing aid by heating. However, when using an electronic dryer, be sure to follow the instructions in the manual to avoid overheating and damaging the delicate parts of the hearing aid.
If there is no special drying equipment, you can also put the hearing aid in a ventilated and cool place to dry naturally. But remember, do not expose the hearing aid to direct sunlight or to a humid environment. Because direct sunlight may cause the hearing aid shell to deform or the internal components to age, and a humid environment will cause the hearing aid to get damp again.
4. Professional inspection and repair
After the above treatment, if the hearing aid still does not work properly, or you are worried that the hearing aid has been severely damaged, it is recommended to send it to the hearing aid fitting center or a professional repair point for inspection and repair in time. Professionals will conduct a comprehensive inspection of the hearing aid to determine the degree of moisture and damaged parts, and make corresponding repairs or replacements.
